Charcoal Artist Statement

My piece depicts a foreshortened tattoo gun with ink flowing out of the tip. The wire wraps around the gun and fades off into the top of the paper. I used texture to create strong contrast in the piece. I emphasized the ink flowing out of the tattoo gun by filling the space in with black ink.

I used a combination of a nib and inkwell and an extra fine point sharpie to create this piece. I experimented on brown paper and loved the different look as opposed to being on plain white paper. I used a variety of pen textures to create value and form in the tattoo gun. I also indicated a light source through the use of shadows.

My mom and the Inktober prompt, flowing, was the inspiration for my piece. I wrote a poem entitled, Tattooed, and saw the imagery for this piece as I was writing. My work expresses a personal meaning about my mom's chronic pain and how it can be hidden and misunderstood like many tattoos and people with tattoos. Although my work itself does not invoke a strong emotional response, accompanied by the poem I think the meaning is clear. I was also inspired by the artist and inventor of Inktober, Jake Parker to use pen and ink for this piece.

My goal for this piece was to create quickly and accurately. I only took about three minutes to map out this piece after completing my four sketches and then dove right in with the pen and ink. I wanted to try pen and ink on a metal object as opposed to an animal, which I would typically prefer.

I learned nibs with inkwell and an extra fine point sharpie can be combined without a noticeable difference. I also learned to trust my foreshortening skills learned through the use of one-point perspective. This piece is as I imagined it compositionally. This piece will influence my future works in using pen and ink with different colored surfaces. I really liked the creation of contrast without being on white paper. I will also probably write with my pieces in the future to help develop a deeper hidden meaning.

Surface M.

My work depicts a translucent and shiny autobots from transformers. When first glancing at my work the viewer will be able to see the Cds I used to give it that translucent feeling and the glitter I used to get that shiny element.

I created  my piece through inspiration from one of my fellow classmates as well as from the teacher of my art course that inspiration being the broken cds that I used.

I didn't really have a inspiration for my ark work but I guess you could say when I was doing this piece it slowly drifted towards being a piece of art where it shows that anything in life no matter how precious or beautiful has a positive and negative aspect to it.

The goal I had for this art work was to finish and finish in a way that I like usually I would send a rush product but I feel with this piece I took my time and was able to make something that I could honestly be proud of.

Overall I'm happy I'm proud of myself

Watercolor Perspective piece

This piece depicts a bight nightclub by the name of club lynx surrounded by tons of darkness with the club being the only bright spot.Followed by dark blue depressing clouds

The inspiration behind my piece was to try and make my main focus the club to show that there is always a light spot when the rest of the world is looking dark.

The goal for my artwork was to crate a piece that people who are possibly sad could look at and realize there is always better things that will come there way whether they believe it or not.

Cross contour

The reasoning behind my cross contour was the simple fact that Im from Newark better known as brick city and in the city that Im from there is a lot of bricks and graffiti so i made this piece as a way to honor and never forget where I came from.

The way in which I made this was by drawing lines across the page in brick form then I wrote the words brick city on the bricks and puts spats of ink to give it a more rugged feel and added some fruit as well.

Portrait

My portrait depicts Fetty Wap who is from jersey where Im from and I decided to draw him because it seemed easy and I could relate to his song since he was from Paterson and me being from Newark.

My art work is suppose to depict a realistic back but it did not meet that criteria. My piece has a very curvy neck back with a hint of vertebrae showing. My artwork is simply called the back since its just a back.Color is very well presented in my art work as well as the emphasis that I put on the back of the head.

My artwork is made entirely from prismacolor pencil and a regular pencil to map out certain areas.I used the holding the pencil straight up technique to really get those colors to burst on the back of the head.It was a long grueling process trying to get the prismas to to blend well with the other colors but if you ask me I did a decent job I could of did better but the odds were stacked against me due to my lack of having a steady hand.

The  artist wanjin gim inspired my artwork its actually his back that I tried to draw.My artwork is suppose to convey the message that even something as simple as a back can have a lot of meaning to it.I tried to convey the emotion of contempt the back is very peaceful and simple so as a viewer you get the feel of everything is alright.

My goals was to get close to a realistic back as I could using only the prismacolors.I unfortunately wasn't able to meet that goal.Even with the amount of time that I put in my art work I wasn't able to get that realistic feel it just feel as though all the colors are everywhere.I tried to even practice with the color to get a realistic pink type of human skin color but it came out as hot pink with some white thrown in.

Some huge takeaways from this project is that I'm not strong when it comes to doing realistic work.I couldn't imagine that my work would look anything like it did honestly my work looked terrible up close. In the future ill will try even harder in order to continue to get good grades on my art work and make a piece that I am proud of.

Anatomical Study

BUA inspired

My artwork depicts a stretched out cartoon version of famous rapper chief keef. The subject matter of my work is a BUA inspired picture of chief keef. The title of my work is chief sosa,I chose this title since my work is chief keef in his own city chicago. The principal of emphasis is the most obvious part to show up with the way that the glasses and the teeth are popping out to exaggerate it.

My artwork made using prismacolors to get a cartoony but also realistic vibe tot my artwork.I was able to really make my piece look great with the way in which I used lighter colors in the bright spots of certain areas in my artwork.

Justin BUA was a huge inspiration behind my artwork. The way in which he was able to get a sense of movement in his artwork through the stretched out arms and body of his work was really amazing and helped influence my piece. My piece doesn't really express any social issues my piece is was made to give the viewer something nice to look at and maybe even have a good laugh at.I tried to portray what I thought chief keef was feeling during the picture which was happiness and regret.Happiness came up in the picture do to chief keef finally being rich and regret came up with him knowing he has to move from his hometown in order to continue his road of success.

My goal like always is to complete a piece of art that I could be proud of.This piece definitely helped me reach my goal and restore my confidence in my ability to do art.My last few pieces even though I got a passing grade on them I wasn't really happy with the way that it came out.My BUA inspired work to me surpassed what I believed I was capable of doing so overall i'm happy that my work is nice and that my goals were exceeded.

What I learned in creating this final piece is that your only limits as a artist is your mind.Having a mindset that you can only do one thing will forever hold you back not just in art but in life but through perseverance you can really accomplish anything that you want.My piece isn't how I imagined it would come out but I'm glad it came out the way it did.I had low standards at first but work was great if not top 3 when it comes to my art projects. The success of this piece will make more adventurous when it comes to my art making process.

My artwork depicts someones living conditions in two different perspectives. The subject maters for my piece is someone who lives in a city with bricks all around them and another person who lives beside the beach. My piece doesnt really have a title its just two different perspectives. The principal that pops out is balance with the way that I made the two different drawing sync up with each other.

My artwork is made entirely out of pencil and pen.The tools I used for my piece was a sharpie and a standard pencil.

What really inspired my piece was a drawing that I saw from instagram. My artwork express a feeling of never giving up because no matter your current situation you can always find a way out of it.

My goal as an artist was to create something that clearly shows two different perspectives and I feel as though i accomplished those goals. This piece definitely helped me reach my goals as an artist I am very proud of my piece form the sketch to the final drawing.

I learned from this art piece that you dont always have to use special type of pencils  or paint in order to create art just with a pencil and pen you can create something that is wonderful.
